emPOWERing regional stakeholders for realising the full potential of european BIOeconomy

The POWER4BIO project aimed to empower European regions to transition towards a bioeconomy. It provided tools and guidance for developing and implementing sustainable bioeconomy strategies. This included a three-step methodology (stakeholder engagement, regional analysis, and strategy development) integrated into a Bioregional Strategy Accelerator Toolkit.

The project also developed a catalogue of bio-based business models and issued recommendations for aligning funding instruments and policies. Through a comprehensive program, POWER4BIO fostered mutual learning and collaboration among 10 participant regions across 9 countries, ensuring knowledge transfer and the joint development of bioeconomy value chains.

Finally, POWER4BIO delivered a training program to enhance regional stakeholders’ skills in bioeconomy aspects like sustainability, funding synergies, and entrepreneurship. The project’s impact was significant, covering regions with a combined population of around 88 million people, a GDP of 2460 billion EUR, and an area of nearly 450,000 km².

DRAXIS successfully developed and implemented the online Bio-Regional Strategy Accelerator Toolkit (BSAT), a key digital platform that now guides decision-makers in regions across Europe to review or develop their bioeconomy strategies. They also played a crucial role in evaluating existing analytical tools for regional bioeconomy potential, leading to the recommendation of the most effective toolset for public use. Furthermore, DRAXIS was responsible for designing and establishing the web-based database for the project’s catalogue of bio-based solutions, ensuring that valuable information on technologies and best practices is readily accessible to end-users and integrated into the BSAT. Finally, DRAXIS contributed significantly to creating the sustainability strategy plan for the project’s results, aiming to ensure the continued impact and long-term use of the BSAT and other project outputs, particularly within relevant European networks.

You can access the BSAT Toolkit here.
