Direct CO2 ELECTROcatalysis for renewable METhane production

The ELECTROMET project aims to create sustainable and cost-effective pathways for producing renewable methane (RCH4) through direct CO2 valorization. Its main objective is to demonstrate an innovative electrochemical process that converts CO2 from sources like biogas plants into RCH4, a clean fuel for the gas market. This demonstration focuses on ensuring the technology’s technical feasibility, safety, environmental benefit, societal acceptance, and commercial viability.

The project addresses key challenges. It tackles the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by transforming CO2 into a valuable resource. It also seeks to enhance energy independence by providing a renewable fuel to lessen reliance on fossil fuels. Technical hurdles include developing advanced catalysts for efficient CO2 conversion and scaling the technology from lab to industrial pilot scale.

As a core contributor to the ELECTROMET project, DReVen leads the complete evaluation of its environmental and economic sustainability from start to finish. This involves the development of robust business models and strategic plans, crucial for securing successful market entry and ensuring the long-term viability of the innovative CO2 conversion technology.

Furthermore, DReVen conducts a detailed market analysis to identify key opportunities and customer groups for the solutions developed within the project. Its comprehensive work also includes an assessment of the ELECTROMET solution’s overall impact, encompassing its societal benefits and potential for broader application in various sectors. Finally, DReVen provides essential support to the European Commission and other stakeholders by assisting with the evaluation of business models for Net-Zero Technology (NZT) solutions.
