MainstreamBIO is a project funded by Horizon Europe that aims to integrate small-scale bio-based solutions into mainstream practices in rural Europe. This initiative provides various rural actors with opportunities to engage in and accelerate the development of the bioeconomy, which is crucial for addressing global environmental and societal challenges. MainstreamBIO establishes regional Multi-actor Innovation Platforms (MIPs) in seven EU countries: Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Bulgaria, Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The project focuses on enhancing cooperation among key rural players to create sustainable business models aligned with regional potentials and policy initiatives. It supports 35 multi-actor partnerships to overcome barriers and bring bio-based innovations to market. These efforts aim to develop over 70 marketable bio-based products and services.
Within the framework of the project, DRAXIS develops a digital toolkit to align bio-based technologies, social innovations, and nutrient recycling practices with available biomass and market trends. This toolkit also includes educational resources based on existing research and will be refined based on the feedback that will be gathered during the project’s innovation support rounds.
In addition, DRAXIS Experts will develop audiovisual training material to be used in the workshops organized by each MIP to coach farmers and other local actors on using MainstreamBIO innovation support services and the digital toolkit.
