RIVERTEMP is an Erasmus+ project, aimed at education in identification and classification of temporary rivers to fight climate change. The project scope is to map the temporary rivers in the partners’ countries (Italy, Greece, Spain) and raise awareness among researchers and the academic community. Temporary (drying) rivers are defined as watercourses…” that they can dry out during some period of the year. More than 50% of the world river network demonstrates that non-perennial rivers are the norm and not the exception on Earth.
The main scope for DRAXIS in this project is to produce the IT tool, working as a web service, and a GIS-based repository, for the identification and categorization of TRs. As one of the main innovation of the RIVERTEMP project, the IT tool for the automatic identification and categorization of TRs, and the GIS-based repository for classified satellite images, will be able to generate virtuous circles for the implementation of a “TR crowd mapping”, potentially carried out by people from all over the world, not only by students and technicians participating in this project.
