Improving ClimAte Resilience of crItical Assets

ICARIA aims to understand climate related impacts to reduce risk by providing cost-effective adaptation solutions, considering compound hazards and cascading effects on assets. ICARIA focuses on both critical assets and infrastructures that were not designed to consider potential climate changes that can increase unplanned outages and failures, and on housing, natural and land areas. Cutting edge methods regarding climate scenario building, and multi-risk assessment approaches will be implemented in three EU regions to understand how future climates might affect life-cycle costs of these investments in the coming decades and to help risk owners managing public and private infrastructures to assess costs and benefits of various adaptation solutions. The case studies include the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, the archipelago of the South Aegean and the Salzburg Region in Austria.

DRAXIS will deliver a Decision Support System (DSS) designed as a tool to enable decision-makers to compare several adaptation solutions for the improvement of climate planning on strategic assets. The DSS integrates methods from previous projects as well as all the tools developed by ICARIA partners, supporting decision-makers to tackle broadly and effectively the most relevant risks that their regions are exposed to. DRAXIS will also develop the project’s sustainability and exploitation plan and explore the replicability of ICARIA’s results.
