BioSOILUTIONS focuses on the production of new soil improvers through the valorisation of four biowaste streams (blood hydrolysate, frass, N-struvite, K-struvite) through nutrient recovery (e.g., N, P, K, organic matter), thereby reducing landfilling and incineration. Through these valorization processes, a range of biowaste feedstocks, enriched with essential additives, are transformed into at least five bio-waste soil improvers. Collaborating closely with three Living Labs in Belgium (Flandres), and in Valencia and Murcia (Spain), we engage stakeholders from various sectors, including fertilization and soil industries, research centers, public bodies, and civil society. This joint effort ensures that the new products align with market demands, fulfill sectoral requirements, and comply with regulations.
Additionally, bioSOILUTIONS designs an upscaling roadmap and a circular business model for each valorisation route to engage entrepreneurs and relevant soil companies, promoting the commercialization of advanced biowaste soil improvers across the EU.
DReVen plays a crucial role in this project, leading the Impact Assessment activities to provide evidence of the positive environmental, economic, and social impacts of biowaste soil improvers, through a holistic life cycle approach (LCA).
