Recent catastrophic events have highlighted the lack of integration between the official protocols of emergency authorities and the available solutions to anticipate geological and extreme weather events in Europe. In this context, Early Warning Systems (EWS) are critical to building a prepared and resilient society.
The challenge of GOBEYOND is to develop and test Multi-Risk Impact-based EWS (MR-IEWS) platforms to support Civil Protection Authorities and first responders at regional and local levels that could be integrated with the emergency response plans, empowering communities to be better prepared in Europe, the countries of the Union for Mediterranean (UfM), and beyond.
GOBEYOND will capitalise on the most innovative impact-based algorithms for weather/climate and geo hazards and will incorporate them into a common IEWS processing core, integrated with high-resolution vulnerability, exposure and risk information at regional and local levels to describe the severity of the hazards in terms of the expected socio-economic impacts.
