A commercial platform providing operational Air Quality services using EO data

The ambition of the AirQast project is to build a one-stop portal platform that provide air quality services based on Earth Observation data. These services are updated emission inventories, advanced forecasting system, street-level air quality information, and decision making tools to manage air quality events in order to reduce their economic and societal impact.

AirQast wants to demonstrate the viability and sustainability of services that are based on Earth Observation data through the development of business cases in new identified markets:

  • Mobile app developers
  • Smart home devices
  • Green supply chain industries
  • Insurance risk companies
  • Smart cities
  • Real estate companies
  • Environmental regulation and planning authorities

The targeted geographical areas are Europe, China and India. Key potential customers from these markets are already engaged in the project.

Technology:

  • Monthly updated regional emissions from satellite observations at 1km regional resolution
  • Hourly maps of urban air pollution data at 50m resolution
  • Hourly global air quality forecasts for three days in advance at 15-20 km
  • Decision support tool for the evaluation and identification of air pollution hotspots in urban areas.
