Our Mentors

Epaminondas Christophilopoulos​

Epaminondas is Head of the Foresight & Tools Unit in the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), Greece.

He has a background in Physics, Environmental Studies, International Relations and Foresight. He has initially worked in the field of technology transfer and research commercialization, before setting up a new activity related to international research co-operation. Since then, he has coordinated several projects in Eastern Europe, Asia, the Gulf peninsula, and Central America, while he has extensively worked in China for over 10 years.

Since 2010, he draws particular focus on future studies and foresight and set up the Foresight Unit in FORTH/PRAXI. He is a certified Future Strategist, member of the World Future Society (WFS), Vice-Chair of the Foresight Europe Network (FEN) and Co-Chair of the Greek Node of the Millennium Project. His current research interests include the use of gamification methods in foresight, the future of tech/work and futures literacy.


Agathoklis Dimitrakos

Agathoklis, Geologist (School of Geology, AUTH 2006), MSc in Environmental Geography (School of Geology, Department of Physical and Environmental Geography, AUTH 2009) works in DRAXIS Environmental Technologies and ARGROAPPS PC, as a Remote Sensing & GIS expert, for the development of environmental and agrometeorological applications. His keen scientific research interests are on the fields of Spatial Data Management, Geostatistical Analysis and Mapping, Satellite Image Analysis and Soil Spectroscopy. He has 10 years of experience participating in various research projects, dealing with geodata management and satellite image processing for soil and water quality parameter mapping, combined with in situ field work techniques implementation.

Dimitris Kaikas

Dimitris has studied in the Department of Geology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. From a young age, he started his research in electronic circuit design and software development, through which he gained deep experience in complex real-time control systems architecture. He has served as Technical Director and a founding member of electronic systems manufacturing companies, with significant work in research and development as well as in the strategy of their products. He has also served as a teacher in Analogue and Digital Electronics and Telecommunication Networks. Furthermore, he serves as a strategic and architectural consultant in startups in Greece and abroad. His work includes implementations of energy and quality optimization models for industrial processes, as well as implementations of control systems interfacing machines, business processes and people in cloud-based unified management frameworks across a wide range of industries, with critical safety requirements.

Stylianos Kotsopoulos

Stylianos is a Remote sensing and numerical modelling expert with over 13 years of experience on the development and adaptation of intelligent decision support systems in agricultural and weather forecasting applications. He received his B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Engineering from the School of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in 2005, while he received his M.Sc. in Agricultural engineering and Water Resources Management in 2008 from the same school. He also received in 2019 an MSc. in Meteorology, Climatology and Atmospheric Environment from the School of Geology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has more than 40 peer review papers in international conferences and scientific journals and more than 12 years of experience in the implementation of National and European environmental and agricultural projects.

Dimitrios Kourtesis

Dimitrios is a software engineer and technology entrepreneur. Since 2006 he has worked as an R&D engineer, computer science researcher, consultant in research and product design and has started two companies – Ideas Forward and Goodvidio. He is program manager and startup coach at OK!Thess and advises technology startups in Greece and abroad. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield.

Emmanouel Lekakis

Emmanouel holds a PhD, an MSc and a BSc title relevant to Agricultural Engineering, Soil and Irrigation Water Management, Environmental Hydraulics, Salinity, Irrigation Water and Soil Quality. His scientific activities cover subjects such as environmental-ecological modelling, soil-water chemistry, soil and water quality, remote sensing for agriculture and earth observation applications. He has a vast experience in the development and implementation of mathematical models and applications for the description of physical processes occurring in natural and agricultural ecosystems. He has also developed an Irrigation Water Advisory Application for more than 35 irrigated crops, during his Post-Doc research. He works as a farm management systems expert in the scientific department of AgroApps P.C. He is responsible for the scientific research and earth observation data incorporation for the development and improvement of the company’s FMIS applications.

Giorgos Loukakis

Giorgos holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Thessaly. He is a graduate of the Department of Geology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and has also studied at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Thessaly. In 2016 he completed his first post-doctoral research at the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly entitled “The geological landscape in video games, Classification, Analysis, Design” and currently conducts post-doctoral research entitled “Use of game engines in the design and implementation of Mount Olympus in a virtual reality environment”, which is supported financially by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. In the past he participated as a scientific associate in a research program of the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, entitled “Urban landscape in video games – Representations and spatial narratives”. He is teaching the course “Architecture and Video Game Development” at the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications, University of Thessaly. In the past he has taught the course “Special Topics of Representation: Digital Landscapes” at the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly. Since 2011, he is a member of the research team of the Laboratory of Environmental Communication & Audiovisual Documentation (LECAD). He is also member of the research team of the Laboratory of Multimodal Design and Research on Hybrid Environments (EscapeLab) and editor at the website His research interests are the digital representations of the landscape in video games, the history and design of video games and virtual/augmented reality. He has designed and implemented the video game “Riddle Of The Glitch”.

Gregory Mygdakos

Gregory has more than ten years’ experience in external consultancy services to a number of EU and Non-EU based companies, in the fields of: innovation diffusion and adoption, business needs and requirements, enterprise development plans and on market strategy development. Additionally, he has been involved in several National and European collaborative projects through bilateral agreements as well as through participation in European funded projects in developing new precision agriculture products and services based on Earth Observation Data. He holds an Honours Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) on New Principles of Business Administration and Management and an MSc on Business Administration of Food and Agricultural Enterprises.


Dimitris Ntempos

Dimitris makes sure production aligns on business missions so that projects stay on a successful delivery path. In the meantime, he loves devoting time and energy to the local tech community.

Thanos Papavasileiou

Thanos is a self-taught product designer who lives and works in Svoronos & London. Ex designer @CSSIgniter, Ex-Head of Design @incrediblue, the last 5 years he’s designing B2B Marketplace Platforms for big brands and enterprise-grade companies like Christie’s, Lloyds of London, LeasePlan and Mitsui & CO.

Pantelis Pekakis

Pantelis is Environmental Engineer with an MSc in Energy Systems. He has more than ten years of experience in consulting, environmental & energy technologies and environmental informatics. His consulting expertise includes drafting and monitoring of Environmental Assessment and Management services (EIA, SEA, DDR, LCA, Industrial Risk Management) for public and private sector, innovation projects and policy making purposes. His engagement in various European and National projects covering fields such as: environmental management, energy, environmental policy, climate change and e-government, provided him with a range of both technical and managerial skills.


Dimitra Perperidou

Dimitra holds an MSc in Management from Bristol University. She has more than 10 years of experience in the agri-food domain, serving in different posts. She is highly skilled in outlining, developing and executing cross functional projects. She was responsible for the design, business development and marketing of commercial applications based on Earth Observation data, for various stakeholders of the agricultural sector. Through that experience she has developed a broad understanding of the downstream satellite-based Earth Observation market and how it can transform digital monitoring by addressing – at a global level – important environmental, social, and economic challenges.

Panagiota Syropoulou

Panagiota is Physicist with MSc in Environmental Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with expertise in air quality monitoring and management of environmental hazards. She is responsible for the design, business development and marketing of commercial applications focused on air quality information (e.g. Envi4All). Specifically, she has expertise in air quality monitoring through official air quality monitoring stations, low-cost citizen science sensors, Earth Observation, and other innovative techniques, while she is also working on air quality modeling and forecasting with state-of-the-art models developed by DRAXIS. She is experienced in air quality data analysis, evaluation of air pollution impacts on human health, and provision of policy recommendation on emission reduction and air pollution management.


Harrys Thomos

Harrys has studied Computer Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as in London. He has worked in Greece, Europe and America, reaching high-level technical positions. Along the way, he met other people also eager to change the world, while, as an entrepreneur, he came in contact with the start-up ecosystems in Silicon Valley and Thessaloniki. He is passionate about new technologies, as well as designing and launching new products. You’ll find him leading the .fromScratch tech team, studying #futureofwork and looking for ways to make ideas live forever.

Irene Zyrichidou

Irene obtained her diploma in Physics in 2004 and her PhD in the field of Satellite Remote Sensing of atmospheric species in 2013 at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). From 2013 – 2018 she had been working as an environmental Postdoc researcher in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics (LAP)-AUTH. She has more than 10 years of experience on research in Atmospheric Physics and Atmospheric Chemistry. She is highly qualified in satellite atmospheric observations diffusion, greatly experienced in the analysis, inter-comparison and validation of satellite observations of a wide range of atmospheric variables in order to attribute the sources of trace gases from space. She has scientific involvement in many European and National research projects related with atmospheric chemistry, air quality and climate and a proven publication track record with more than 220 citations. She has more than 30 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings and more than 25 participations in international conferences. She is also an active reviewer in 8 scientific Journals. (h-index = 10, source: Scopus). From 2018 she works in DRAXIS Environmental Technologies S.A. as Senior Environmental Consultant – Scientific Project Manager.

Apostolos Agrafiotis

Apostolos is a fully-qualified Software Engineer with experience in researching, designing & developing of large scale ICT systems, specialized in Remote Sensing and Web GIS Applications.

He is the Technical Leader of the Draxis development team and is expert in undertaking the entire production cycle of web application development process.


Giorgos Efthimiou

Giorgos is a highly driven technical professional with a vast skill set and strong affinity for constant learning and improvement. Most of his career has been focused on web software development.

He specializes in creating web user interfaces (UI) with high quality user experience (UX) and conversion rate and performance optimization.

Athanasios Fotis

Athanasios is a skilled software engineer with more than 10 years of experience in computer science. He is an expert in designing, implementing and deploying application interfaces and web services as well as supervising ICT projects of different scale and complexity. He is also experienced in application interfaces and web services and always aims for the best deliverable outcome. His moto is “better software for a better world”.

Petros Gasteratos

Petros is an IT professional with a degree in Computer Science from the Ionian University. He has worked on various projects as a software developer the past years, including web platforms and mobile applications. Currently he is working on environmental web platforms and applications managing data such as sensor data, scientific model data, meteorological data and satellite data.

Christos Bacharakis

Christos is an open-source engineer, supporting communities, companies, and organizations around the world for adopting and using open practices. At Mozilla, he is a member of the Open Innovation team, that helps Mozilla’s product and technology teams move more intentionally towards open methods across all phases of the lifecycle to gain long-term competitive advantage. He is also an aviation geek, coffee lover, and a no-pro basketball player.


Ioannis Papoutsis

Ioannis is an Associate Researcher at the National Observatory of Athens, Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing. He is an electrical and computer engineer from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) with a research focus on the field of Earth Observation and geoinformatics through the processing of big volumes of satellite and geospatial data. He holds a PhD (NTUA) on the use of advanced satellite interferometry techniques, a MSc in Wireless Communications (University College London) and a Master in Business Administration from ALBA Graduate Business School. Dr Papoutsis has a deep understanding of the Copernicus flagship programme, being the Operations Manager of the Greek node of European Space Agency Hubs that distribute Petabytes of Sentinel data, as well as a Copernicus Emergency Management Services Manager for Risk and Recovery. His current research focuses on the exploitation, management and processing of big satellite data for the development of operational services, with emphasis on disasters management. He was part of the team that won the first prize at the 2014 Copernicus Masters Competition for platform FireHub.

Dragutin Protic

Dragutin is assistant professor at the Department for geodesy and geoinformatics, Faculty of civil-engineering in Belgrade and a founder and CEO of GILAB company. His main area of interest is inovative application of Earth Observiation (EO) data in mapping and monitoring of land cover features. Focused mainly on Copernicus Sentinel data. He was leading the activities in H2020 APOLLO project related to developing the models for crop monitoring from EO data and commercialization of the services for farmers through CropLab solution. For many years he has managed the EEA’s CORINE Land Cover mapping projects which are now part of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Services.

George Saperas

George is Partner & CFO at UniFund since January 2018. UniFund is a € 30m. VC Fund (backed by Equifund and other institutional investors), which invests in technology and innovation projects at pre-seed and seed stage. He is responsible for the coordination and execution of investment cases (origination, due diligence, financial analysis, valuations, deal structuring. He actively assists in building pipelines of potential transactions by advising entrepreneurs on business ideas. Finally he participates in the supporting and monitoring of Funds’ investments and the evaluation of new ones. Prior to that George served as a Finance Director and BoD member at TANEO (New Economy Development Fund for 9 years, Finance Manager at Eden Springs Hellas (member of Danone Group) for 2 years, Financial Analyst in Strategic Planning / M&As at S&B (greek multinational group operating in industrial minerals sector) for 5 years, and Senior Auditor at Grant Thornton for 5 years. George holds an MBA in International Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham (UK) and a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Piraeus. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA member). He speaks native Greek, fluent English and conversational French.

Machi Simeonidou

Machi is a dynamic and constantly curious entrepreneur. She is the Managing Director of AgroApps with an extensive experience in the public and private agricultural sector. She has worked in several agricultural organizations and companies, and as well as an external partner for agricultural cooperatives being in direct contact with farmers and assisting their everyday work. She has also extended background in developing strategic plans regarding agricultural related projects and supporting the organisation’s strategic alliances and partnership. She is a PhD graduate in Agroeconomy.

Stavros Tekes

Stavros is a Technical Leader with more than 15 years of experience working with diverse companies, both Startups and Corporations. He is co-owner and CTO of DRAXIS ENVIRONMENTAL SA, a company active in the environmental informatics field, as well as a co-founder and CTO of Agroapps PC, a company based in Greece, dedicated to providing sustainable ICT solutions that help modern farming and agriculture. He holds an Electronic and ICT engineering degree and an MSc in Advanced Informatics while he has wealth of experience in software engineering, web/mobile development, ICT integration projects, and teaching-training activities under his belt.

During all these years he has participated as a technical coordinator in more than 10 international R&D projects aiming to create ICT solutions both for the agricultural and the environmental sectors. Possessing excellent knowledge of system architecture, data modelling techniques and software development environments, Stavros is a strong thought leader with a proven track-record in recognizing critical issues and risks and taking proper proactive actions. Passionate about technology, he has a strong interest in following up the trends in application development and always happy to be challenged by the next big ICT project.
